International comparison of energy efficiency and CO2 reduction potentials (power generation sector)
International comparison of energy efficiency shall be an important information for implementing global warming countermeasures, as well as planning international framework and targets of emission reduction. We have analyzed international comparison of energy efficiency in power generation sector as of 2011.
This analysis shows that Japanese coal power plant sector maintains superior generation efficiency on a global basis.
We have also estimated CO2 reduction potentials of coal-fired power plants in major countries upon separating an effect of operational repair and new construction.
The result shows that among CO2 reduction potentials, operation-and-maintenance effect is significant while potential by the installation of highly-efficient equipment is large, which implies that it is a critical mission for Japan to support coal-fired power plants overseas proactively.
