About "New Earth 21" Program
To ensure the economic growth and the environmental protection at the same time, it is essential to promote technological breakthroughs and to further improve energy efficiency. Based on this recognition, "The New Earth 21" program was proposed by the Japanese government in 1990, with the aim of solving problems through the development of new technologies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and technology transfers.
The concept consists of the following five items:
- Promoting energy conservation
- Use of clean energy
- Developing innovative environmental technologies
- Enhancing CO2 sinks
- Developing innovative next-generation energy technologies
